CLOVIS — A routine call may have set off some red flags for area residents, based on its proximity to Clovis High School, but was nothing beyond a small fire at a shuttered grocery store.
Clovis fire and police units reported a little before 10:30 a.m. to the store, on the southwest corner of the Purdue-Thornton intersection and across the street from CHS.
The fire was taken down in less than 15 minutes. Capt. Allan Silvers of the Clovis Fire Department said the building had no utilities and open doors and windows, leading the department to believe it was a human-caused fire.
“Whether it was intentional or not, I can’t (conclude at this point),” Silvers said.
