Eastern New Mexico University has another record enrollment. A university news release reports 5,222 students enrolled for the spring semester. "This is an increase of 2.7 percent over last year's spring record of 5,084," the release stated. The paintings of pioneer Taos artists are on exhibit at the Eula Mae Edwards Museum and Gallery at Clovis Community College. The exhibit showcases work from some of the earliest Taos artists, including Bert Geer Phillip, Ernest L. Blumenschein and Joseph Henry Sharp. The artists with works on display are deceased. Clovis Fire Department officials are continuing to investigate the cause of a Friday afternoon duplex fire in the 800 block of Hinkle Street. No injuries were reported, but Capt. Allan Silvers said the duplex where the fire started was heavily damaged. The back door to the burned duplex was open when firefighters arrived about 4:30 p.m., Silvers said, but the resident was not home. Less than two weeks after Clovis residents celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, a plaque located in a city park was stolen and found destroyed Friday morning. Clovis Police Chief Steve Sanders said the 24-by-30 bronze plaque was located ground down and, "unfortunately, in pieces," at Clovis Recycling. Clovis firefighters responded to a call about 4:30 p.m. Friday at 803 Hinkle to find heavy flames and smoke coming from an apartment, according to Dale Hand, battalion chief at Clovis Fire Station One.
