  • Udall: Wind energy tax credit crucial to state

    Christina Calloway CMI staff writer

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., said he plans to demand an extension of the wind energy production tax credit on the Senate floor Thursday, a tax credit he feels has been instrumental in creating jobs in New Mexico. On his weekly radio call, Udall pleaded his case for the extension of the tax credit in an attempt to save it before it expires at the end of the year. "Clean energy innovation is creating jobs in states like New Mexico and we should continue encouraging that growth," Udall said. "In New Mexico we have enough wind... Full story

  • Eastern New Mexico Lottery sales fall

    Traci Tuttle CMI staff writer

Lottery sales in the four-county area of Curry, De Baca, Quay, and Roosevelt have dropped 11 percent from six years ago. The lottery was established to create revenues for education, so lottery sales are vital to college students who depend on the Legislative Lottery Scholarship program for tuition assistance. The combined $1 million drop in lottery sales in the counties amounts to the loss of full-time tuition-assistance for about 20 students. "Every day, we meet someone who tells us that their son or daughter or grandchild... Full story

  • Idle time for the shredder

    Kevin Wilson CMI staff writer

I took a few days off last week, and to quote "Office Space" protagonist Peter Gibbons, "I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be." OK, so it was a little bit more, as I discovered that giving me idle time is a terrible idea. With no major renovation project to tackle or ballpark to visit, I was left with idle time. It got used productively, particularly in Christmas shopping, housecleaning, furniture moving, and packing up clothes I didn't need and donating them to people who might. The jury's st... Full story

  • Tularosa tops Texico - again

    Dave Wagner CMI staff writer

TEXICO — You could argue that Tularosa has Texico's number of late. Mostly, the Wildcats have Jim Coleman, and that was enough to lift second-seeded Tularosa to a 26-21 Class 2A playoff semifinal win over the Wolverines on Friday night. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound senior got his team on the board with a 47-yard interception return early in the third quarter, then erased a one-point deficit when he went up over a Texico defender to haul in a 51-yard scoring pass from senior q...

Thornton soon realized it was still having an effect on her. "She would notice people smoking and say, 'I don't like that, you should never do that'," Thornton said. Today is the 37th Great American Smokeout, sponsored by the...
