A group of Portales Junior High School students spent the year working on a project that used robotics to teach students math, engineering, teamwork and problem-solving techniques. Area officials said they were aware of Eastern Plains Council of Governments' failure to comply with federal- and state-mandated annual audits, but believed the benefits of the agency outweighed the problems.
