    CNJ STAFF REPORTS The Clovis City Commission voted at a special meeting Monday night to send Mayor David Lansford to Washington D.C. this month to request funding for the Ute Water Project. Lansford, chairman of the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Authority, and Project Manager Scott Verhines will make the trip, which could take place late this month.     CNJ STAFF REPORTS Air Force Headquarters announced Thursday afternoon that the maintenance group at Cannon Air Force Base has been named the best in the Air Force for the year 2003.   • Hail hits Cannon

    The National Weather Service reported hail in Clovis and the surrounding areas early Sunday evening. Cannon Air Force Base received the brunt of the wet weather reporting 1 3/4 inches of golf-ball size hail and 0.30 inches of rain. Five miles north of Clovis received an inch of hail and had wind gusts near 60 mph, the NWS reported. Areas one mile west Pleasant Hill received nickle-sized hail, the NWS reported.     Contributions to the Salvation Army’s Empty Stocking Fund, which is used to provide Christmas gifts to needy families, fell far short of the organization’s goal, according to results released Friday. According to Capt. Hector Diaz, the Salvation Army raised only $4,781.23 for the fund, a bit more than half of the organization’s $9,000 goal.
