    FORT SUMNER — The De Baca County Commission has issued a drought emergency request in an effort to bring attention to the struggles of drought-stricken county ranchers. In a unanimous vote, the commission approved a letter to be sent to various public officials connected to the weekly development of the U.S. Drought Monitor.     FORT SUMNER — De Baca County commissioners discussed the potential of hosting an annual free day for e-waste recycling at the county solid waste transfer station. Commission Chairman Scot Stinnett said the growth in the use of computer-based devices has led to a rapidly escalating need for disposal of obsolete devices and that recycling offers the best solution.     FORT SUMNER — The De Baca County Cooperative Extension Service will host a free cattle seminar, “Let’s Talk Mineral,” March 20 at the Extension office. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the seminar begins at 5:30. The event will include general information on mineral supplements for cattle, including balancing a mineral program based off of a local forage analysis, and mineral absorption.     FORT SUMNER — The school board Dec. 16 approved a two-year contract enhancement for Superintendent Matt Moyer, extending his employment through June 30, 2023. Moyer’s current contract runs through June of 2021. The vote was approved on a 3-2 vote, with Sharon West and Molly Kenyon opposing and Lecil Richards, Kyle Sparks and Scott Lewis voting in favor.
