  • Hounds rally to shock Lions

    Kevin Wilson - Staff writer|Updated Dec 21, 2019

PORTALES — In a season where the most familiar thing has been frustration, a quick 10-2 deficit certainly seemed in place at Greyhound Arena Thursday night. But just enough went the Greyhounds’ way in the second half, and an offensive rebound went the way of Marvin Mapaga in the closing seconds. The junior forward made the second of two free throws to break a tie, and Arkansas-Fort Smith couldn’t connect on a long heave in the final second as Eastern New Mexico snuck out w...

    Kevin Wilson - Staff Writer|Updated Dec 7, 2019

Realignment will change next year’s football schedules slightly for Portales, Clovis and Texico — and pretty drastically for Fort Sumner and Dora — assuming the New Mexico Activities Association’s proposals go through. The governing body of prep activities approved new classifications and alignments for member schools during its regular meeting Wednesday in Albuquerque. Teams have until Wednesday to appeal their placement to the NMAA. A complete realignment and a summary of changes are available at nmact.org. Distric...

It was a Saturday of celebration, because Clovis and Portales got a week of relaxation for the first week of the state football playoffs. The top four teams in Classes 3A through 6A receive first-round byes this week, and a home game in next week’s quarterfinal round. • ENMU men's soccer hopes high

    Kevin Wilson - Staff Writer|Updated Sep 10, 2019

PORTALES — At the rate it was going Sunday, Eastern New Mexico’s men’s soccer team would soon have worry about being the nationally-ranked team trying to avoid an upset and not the team trying to score the upset. That’s now reality. The Greyhounds, fresh off two wins over ranked opponents, Lund themselves No. 17 in the latest United States Soccer Coaches Association poll. They blanked No. 3 Fort Hays State Sunday at Greyhound Stadium. Goals from Joaquin Borruel and Gabriel...
