One Clovis man is putting on a concealed carry class for women, starting towards the beginning of April. Things are hopping at Hillcrest Park Zoo. Two baby kangaroos arrived Friday. The joeys, a male and female, are both around 7-8 months old, according to zoo Director Damian Lechner. He said the zoo has had kangaroos before, but it has been quite a while. Lechner said the zoo is trying to locate animals into geographical areas across the park. Since 2020, the Portales Fire Department has lost 34 personnel to turnover, according to Fire and EMS Chief T.J. Cathey. Administrators at Eastern New Mexico University’s Portales campus reported last week that spring enrollment numbers are up by 7.8% from spring 2022. The spring 2023 total headcount is 4,849 students, up from 4,490 in spring 2022. The High Plains Humane Society (HPHS) is going to be vaccinating all dogs and cats that enter the City of Clovis Animal shelter.
