  • School board selects architect to design new middle school

    The Clovis Municipal Schools board of education selected an Albuquerque architectural firm Tuesday to design a new $30 million middle school. The request, presented by Deputy Superintendent of Operations Joel Shirley, ranked 13 architects responding to a bid. Fanning Bard Tatum Architects, based in Albuquerque, was ranked number one. The board approved entering into contract negotiations with the firm. The district is planning to have the new school open for students in 2013.     When Loretta Fogerson decided it was time to get hospice help for her ailing mother, her main focus was on her mother’s care. She was surprised to discover the hospice staff cared for her and her family as much as her mother. “The week that my mom died, I stayed at the nursing home with her. Jael the Giraffe may not know it, but zoo adminstrators do: Her biological clock is ticking and, at 7 years old, she’s in prime shape to have offspring.     The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education unanimously approved $600,000 worth of budget cuts to the 2009-2010 school year and $500,000 worth of cuts to the 2010-2011 budget during Tuesday’s special board meeting. The cuts were suggested by administration after the Legislature handed down budget decreases to education during an October special session to cover a $650 million deficit.
