    Two men were assaulted and robbed Saturday in the 800 block of University Drive near Eastern New Mexico University, according to Portales police. Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said James Williams of Clovis and Robert Powell of Portales were accosted about 10 p.m. by two males. The victims told police they were jumped by two men while walking to ENMU from a friend’s house who lives a few blocks away, Berry said. They reported their wallets and phones were stolen.   • Workshop demolished by fire

    A cutting torch set off a fire Sunday afternoon that destroyed a 15-by-20 foot workshop in Roosevelt County. The fire started about 3:30 p.m. Portales Fire Department Battalion Chief Lance Hill said the men working on the small barn at 1684 South Roosevelt Road 6 were unable to contain the fire. Firefighters responding to the scene were able to contain the fire inside the structure, Hill said....

    An armed man robbed the Sonic on Chicago Street about 9 p.m. Thursday, according to Portales police. Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said one person entered the restaurant with his face partially covered, produced a handgun, demanded cash, and left. As of about 10:15 p.m., Berry said the police didn’t have a description of the getaway vehicle or know how much money was taken. Officers were still gathering evidence, he said.     Diet or regular — Portales clean-up crews had plenty of choices Tuesday after a Dr Pepper truck dumped its load at Avenue A and First Street. Police said a flatbed Dr Pepper truck was west bound on First Street when its load shifted while attempting a lane change.     Clovis police have arrested a teenage boy for an auto burglary Saturday in Portales, said Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry. Berry said his officers located the 14-year-old Portales resident in Clovis Wednesday, acting on information from Portales Officer Kane Wyatt.
