Repairs to a ruptured natural gas line in Portales were completed as of 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to a New Mexico Gas Company official. The pipe was broken at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Boston Avenue, which led Portales police to evacuate four homes and a daycare center as a precautionary measure. The Roosevelt County Commission met in a work session Wednesday in the county courthouse to discuss the possibility of building a new Magistrate Court complex. PNT staff reports The New Mexico Department of Health is warning pet and livestock owners in Roosevelt County and the surrounding area to make sure their dogs, cats, horses and other valuable livestock get vaccinated against rabies after an unvaccinated pet dog from near Portales was attacked by an aggressive acting skunk in early July. PNT staff reports A 14-year-old Roosevelt County boy was arrested Sunday in connection with an auto burglary consistent with 12 other auto burglaries that occurred in the last few days, according to Portales Police. The boy was charged with one count of auto burglary, a fourth-degree felony, and resisting and evading an officer, a misdemeanor. He was released to his parents. James Buchanan, 70, of Lubbock was in serious but stable condition at a Lubbock hospital Saturday after his three-wheeled motorcycle left the road and crashed through a fence in Roosevelt County, according to Sheriff Darren Hooker. The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Friday on New Mexico 202 near Portales. Buchanan was the only person riding the vehicle. Hooker said the cause of the accident is unknown but an investigation is pending. He said officers hope to speak to the victim next week....

The 16th Special Operations Squadron has its first female commander in Lt. Col. Tracy Onufer, according to an announcement on the Cannon Air Force Base website. Onufer is only the second woman to command an operational flying squadron in Air Force Special Operations Command. She was promoted to the Cannon position in February.
