The Journey of Hope will make its seventh annual visit to Portales on Monday. Journey of Hope involves a team of about 30 bicyclists riding across the country to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities. Portales police officials are advising the public to report suspicious activity after a recent increase of burglary and larceny in Portales. Over the past six days, police have received 19 calls involving larceny and burglary, said Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said. Police were investigating an apparent stabbing Monday that ended in the death of a Portales man. According to Capt. Lonnie Berry of the Portales Police Department, at approximately 5 p.m. Monday officers found Don Chapman inside a residence at 901 S. Main in Portales suffering from wounds and semi-concious. A strong thunderstorm and wind damage left one Portales family believing they had a close encounter with a twister Wednesday evening.
