    A program that provided a laptop computer to every seventh-grader at Portales Junior High School last year was a big success according to teachers and administrators. The school is looking forward to expansion of the program this year.     Key Ingredients: America By Food, a traveling Smithsonian exhibit will arrive in Portales in late February for a six-week stay. The exhibit will be hosted by the Eastern New Mexico University Golden Library, Roosevelt County Cooperative Extension Service and the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce.     After jumping out to a 2-0 start at a Lubbock 10-and-under girls softball tournament last weekend, the Portales Sun Devils finished the tournament 4-2 to take third place. “We did OK,” head coach Ben Rodriguez said. “We took third. Our girls wanted to go further but that’s an achievement for them.     Portales Municipal School District will hold a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. today at the board room at the Administration Building to discuss the release of the Adequate Yearly Progress results, and answer questions about the reports that are required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.     The Portales Sun Devils 10-and-under girls fast-pitch softball team won their first two games in pool play at the Regional softball tournament in Lubbock and earned a bye in the first round of bracket play.     A Portales man was killed Saturday in a one-vehicle accident east of Portales, according to Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office officials. Isabel Ornelas, 51 lost control of his vehicle around 1:15 p.m. on N.M. 467 (Airbase Highway) between Milepost 2 and 3.     Portales Police Department officers responded to a call of shots fired near Lindsey Park at 4 a.m. Sunday and found two victims suffering from injuries received in a beating.     Eastern New Mexico University has hired Judith Haislett as the new vice president for student affairs. She succeeds Gary Musgrave, who retires Sept. 30.     Portales Police arrested two Portales residents Wednesday on charges of trafficking cocaine in connection with a seizure made last week, according to a Portales Police Department news release. Adrieanna Queen, 21, is free after posting a $50,000 bond. She was charged with one count of trafficking cocaine. Francisco Eric Ornelas, 20, remains in the Roosevelt County Detention Center with a bond amount of $50,000. He is also charged with one count of trafficking cocaine.
