    ALBUQUERQUE — The fifth-seeded Portales Rams thought they were a better team than the fourth-seeded Bloomfield Bobcats and in the Class 3A state baseball quarterfinals Wednesday, they proved it.   • Police: Grenade's danger uncertain

    Whether a grenade found Saturday in a Portales yard was live or not couldn’t be determined, according to Portales Police Department spokesperson Lonnie Berry.     Hundreds of cowboys, both professional and amateur, will compete in calf-roping events this weekend. The third annual Joe’s Boot Shop Calf Roping is being held Friday through Saturday at the Curry County Mounted Patrol Arena.     Portales Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at 8:22 p.m. on Wednesday night at S.O.S. Outlet Store, located at 113 North Avenue I. According to the report, the fire started in a small room located inside the building.     Because of an error on a scorecard, the Portales Ram golf team’s win at the Roswell-NMMI Tournament on Tuesday has been retracted. Coach Patrick Crowley said the number of strokes recorded on one Ram player’s card was correct. One hole was recorded as par when it was a bogey, and another hole was recorded bogey when it was par.     High winds whipped through Roosevelt County on Tuesday, destroying a mobile home west of Portales and tossing shingles, signs and patio furniture.
