    PNT Staff Reports Counterfeit bills in circulation Portales and Clovis have both seen counterfeit $50 and $100 bills in the past week, said Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry. One Portales business on South Chicago called police last week after receiving a fake $50 bill, Berry said. Others refused to accept suspicious bills and then called police to ask if counterfeit money has been a problem.     PNT Staff Reports The Portales Municipal School Board approved an updated grade adjustment policy at their regular meeting Monday night. The policy defines the teacher’s role in assigning grades to students and changing grades due to mechanical or clerical errors. “We needed to update the grade adjustments policy to make sure we are being fair to the students, the parents and to the teachers,” Superintendent Randy Fowler said.     Portales police are investigating two aggravated batteries from the past four days, according to Capt. Lonnie Berry. In the most recent case, a 27-year-old Portales man was beaten about 1 a.m. Sunday at a private residence in the 700 block of West 18th Street, according to Berry. He said police were still gathering evidence, but the arrest of two suspects was pending in the next day or so.     Firefighters from around the area had a Roosevelt County grassfire 90 percent contained as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to Portales Fire Chief John Bridges. Bridges said the fire burned about 2,000 acres of grassland and some firefighters remained on the scene watching for hot spots. The suspected cause of the blaze is arcing electrical lines, Bridges said. Lonnie Berry said Officer Lee Ferguson had turned on his lights and siren in pursuit of a vehicle that ran a red light in front of him at the intersection of First and Main streets.
