The city of Portales is asking residents to participate in a water service survey. The City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution to allow EPCOR to assess the water. Portales City Council on Tuesday again tabled a decision on a proposed swimming pool agreement between the city and Eastern New Mexico University. Portales school board members on Monday discussed online access to meetings and said goodbye to Superintendent Johnnie Cain. The New Mexico Water Trust Board has awarded $20 million to the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority. The Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents on Saturday awarded naming rights for the school’s basketball arena and football stadium to the Steve Loy family. A Portales man last week pleaded guilty to multitude felonies, including abuse of a child and four counts of battery on a peace officer. Law officers in Roosevelt County on Thursday arrested a man they say shot a woman during an armed robbery on Wednesday. Nathaniel Orona, 19, is accused of shooting Heather Apodaca through her right hand and leg while stealing her purse, phone and vehicle after she gave him a ride.
