In the midst of this frantically busy, digitally infused world, why should we care about poetry? Clearly it touches us in some way, since it’s been around for a few thousand years. Although poetry seems inscrutable to many, it does appeal to a great diversity of people, including our youth, as evidenced by the recent “Poetry Out Loud” competition held last week at Clovis High School. The Clovis City Commission will meet 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library. Agenda items include: - Introduction of an ordinance that would combine the Parks and Recreation Board, the Keep Clovis Beautiful Committee and the Ned Houk Park Board. Members of each board have expressed frustration at an inability to obtain quorums. - A request to approve polling places and election workers for the March 6 municipal elections.
