LAS CRUCES — Just when it looked like the Clovis High Wildcats had taken control, Mayfield turned the tables. The top-ranked Trojans (14-0) answered the Cats’ 72-yard go-ahead scoring drive following the second-half kickoff with a 65-yard touchdown march of their own and went on to a 17-7 victory in the Class 5A state championship game at Field of Dreams. Senior quarterback David Bustillos threw two second-half TD passes as Mayfield handed the second-ranked Cats (12-2) their only losses this season around a 12-game win...
LAWTON, Okla. — Arthur Trousdell posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and the host Cameron Aggies held Eastern New Mexico University without a field goal for the first 18:16 of the game en route to an easy 58-42 win in Saturday’s Lone Star Conference crossover game at Aggie Gym. Willie Tisdale also scored 14 and Matt Reid added 11 for Cameron (3-2), which jumped out to a 27-6 lead before Tristan Largent hit a layup for the Greyhounds (3-3) at the 1:44 mark of the first half. LAWTON, Okla. — Tiana Bryant posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds and sparked a late 8-0 run that gave Eastern New Mexico University enough of a cushion to survive in a 66-65 win Saturday in a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Cameron University. Bryant also had a pair of steals in the final 10 seconds as the Zias protected a one-point lead to improve to 5-1 on the season and win what was easily their closest game so far in the season. I get a lot of jail mail. Most of it’s from mistreated, misunderstood innocent people, of course, whose purpose for writing is usually beyond my limited intellectual capacity. But a letter last week from Bernardo Baca III caught my attention because it was not 83 pages long, it did not address the Curry County Adult Detention Center’s food quality or temperature control and it did not ask for an investigative reporter to uncover the truth of anything. Baca’s letter was written in complete sentences in discernible handw... Full story
Editor’s note: Bernardo Baca refers to a newspaper story promotion that referenced zoo animals and jail inmates being watched and fed on Thanksgiving. Paper’s zoo animal reference insensitive A recent inference that inmates are equal to the animals at the zoo is an outrage! I am very offended and cannot believe that you could be so shallow and insincere to not even consider the feelings of not only us inmates but also our loved ones at home. Classifying inmates with beasts of burden or just plain burdens is how your comment m... Full story
President Bush’s speech at the Naval Academy on Wednesday was disappointing on several levels. There had been signs that the administration was dropping such hints. Last weekend White House press secre...
