    Clovis Media Inc

Major League Baseball purists may be mad about the designated hitters, the stadiums with retractable roofs and World Series played in November, but at least one thing never seems to change about the game: The people who run it are PC — profiteering cuckoos. ESPN reports MLB decided this week the Houston Astros can celebrate their humble beginnings 50 years ago as the Colt .45s, so long as the gun's image does not appear on their throwback jerseys. Yes, the Atlanta Braves have a tomahawk logo; Milwaukee's team mascot c...

  • My turn: Grouse sighting shows life endures

There is nothing better than a good grouse to start a morning … unless it is three of them. I was walking in our sand hills last week when they swooped past me, a trio of lesser prairie chickens, soaring low and to the east, their unmistakable wing pattern carrying them north of my house and across the horizon a mile or so away. We know how devastating this drought has been on local agriculture. It has been equally hard on our wildlife neighbors, including the elusive, naturally shy, wonderfully comical prairie chickens. (...

  • Letter to the editor: City needs conservative leadership

In the final days leading to the mayoral and City Commission election, I’d like to take a moment to remind the citizens of Clovis about an important vote they cast last year to defeat the insidious Affordable Housing Plan the mayor and her minions on the City Commi-ssion tried to shove down their throats. When you go to the polls on March 6, remember that Randy Crowder was the only dissenting vote on the City Commission regarding the Affordable Housing Plan. His admirable action set in motion the chain of events that led t...

The sign indicating the illegal left from Prince into Walgreen's The illegal left into McDonald's on 14th Street The illegal left turn at Prince Street and Texas Street into Walmart A few weeks ago, a coworker came through the office. He told us he had just left a meeting, where the discussion turned to traffic trivia around Clovis. "For example," he said, "it's illegal to turn left into Walgreen's from Prince Street." I did a double-take. "I've never heard of that," I said, "and I do that all the time." I'd gone through a...
