  • Give a listen: 23,000 years of history

Adrian Gomez Albuquerque Journal, Syndicated content|Updated Mar 8, 2023

It takes time to sort through 23,000 years of history. Especially when the research has unveiled so many unheard stories. During the early days of the pandemic Katie Stone envisioned New Mexico history lessons for groups of children. Then it turned remote as mass gatherings were canceled. As the founder and executive director of the podcast, "The Children's Hour," Stone was forced to think outside the box to get information to the masses. "The Children's Hour," is an...

  • Texas Tech suspends basketball coach

New York Daily News, Syndicated content|Updated Mar 8, 2023

Texas Tech suspended men's basketball coach Mark Adams on Sunday for "racially insensitive" remarks he allegedly made last week. Adams "referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters," according to Texas Tech. Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt said he learned about the comments on Friday. Adams was allowed to coach Texas Tech's regular season finale on Saturday against Oklahoma State before the suspension was announced Sunday morning....

CLOVIS – Clovis High's boys are off to a solid start this season. Meantime, the Lady Wildcats are also making progress. The CHS boys earned their second dual win of the season on Tuesday, defeating Roswell Goddard 7-2 at the CHS tennis courts. Meantime, the Lady Cats came up just short in a 5-4 loss to their Goddard counterparts. Every win for the Clovis boys came in straight sets. Meantime, they made the Rockets work for their wins, with junior Gerald Gonzales dropping a 7...

Dave Wagner, The Staff of The News|Updated Mar 4, 2023

TEXICO – Texico's girls weren't about to let Mescalero sneak up on them in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament on Friday night. The seventh-seeded Lady Wolverines revved up their pressure defense, forcing a bevy of turnovers in an early 12-0 run that allowed them to cruise past the Lady Chiefs 65-28 and advance to an 11:30 a.m. Tuesday quarterfinal match against second-seeded Mesa Vista at Rio Rancho Events Center. Senior guard Catelyn Breshears tallied 16 points,...

  • ENMU earns softball split with ninth-inning HR

the Staff of The News|Updated Mar 4, 2023

PORTALES – Edyn Lopez didn’t get into the game until late, but she certainly had an impact for Eastern New Mexico University’s softball team on Friday. Pinch-hitting to lead off the bottom of the seventh, the sophomore from Los Lunas reached on a two-base error and eventually scored the game-tying run on senior right fielder Mikenzy Patterson’s two-out infield hit to force extra innings. Then Lopez walloped a one-out home run to center field in the bottom of the ninth, her first of the season, to give the Hounds a 4-3 win...

the Staff of The News|Updated Mar 4, 2023

DIMMITT – Senior Abran Castillo hit a long 3-pointer as time expired on Tuesday night, lifting Floydada past Farwell 68-65 in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal playoff game. The Whirlwinds (35-5) advanced to a regional quarterfinal contest on Friday night against Reagan County (30-9). With the score tied, Floydada gained pos...

  • Buffs oust ENMU in tourney

the Staff of The News|Updated Mar 4, 2023

FRISCO, Texas – Suffice it to say, rival West Texas A&M is a bad matchup for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team. The Buffaloes have beaten ENMU soundly all three times this season, and In the process notched the top three point totals against the Greyhounds, averaging 101 points against a team which normally allows around 70. Top-seeded WT used an early 15-0 run, spanning six minutes, and never looked back in rolling to a 97-66 quarterfinal victory over the Hounds on Thursday night. The 22nd-ranked Buf...

  • Third-seeded St. Pius tops Lady Rams

the Staff of The News|Updated Mar 4, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE – It’s always nice to advance in a state basketball tournament. Portales High’s girls, though, came into the season with a relative lack of experience and just couldn’t quite make things work. On Friday night, the Lady Rams found themselves down by 16 points at halftime and were unable to make a second-half run in a 59-40 loss to third-seeded St. Pius in a Class 4A first-round matchup. The Sartans (21-5) advanced to take on sixth-seeded Los Alamos (20-7), a 48-38 winner on Friday over Valley, in an 11:30 a.m. qu...

  • Lady Cats eliminated by No. 7 seed Cruces

the Staff of The News|Updated Mar 4, 2023

LAS CRUCES – Clovis High’s girls got off to a good start on Friday night, but it all fell apart in the second half. Second-seeded Las Cruces High used strong pressure defense to force numerous turnovers and outscored the Lady Wildcats 33-15 over the final two stanzas to register a 51-33 win in a Class 5A first-round tournament game. Clovis (20-9), seeded 10th, led 14-7 at the quarter and stayed even with the Lady Bulldawgs 18-18 at the intermission. But Cruces (21-8) went off for four 3-pointers, three by senior guard Lil...
