  • Metamorphoses seen throughout bible

    Curtis Shelburne

Curtis K. Shelburne Metamorphosis. It’s a cool-sounding word. I like the way it rolls off the tongue. It’s one of those words that we’ve just trucked in completely “as is” from one language—in this case, Greek—right over into English. You see, “metamorphosis” comes from the Greek word—wait for it!—“metamorphosis.” “Meta” has to do with “change,” and “morphe” has to do with “form,” so metamorphosis has to do with a change of form, a transformation.... Full story

  • Grant McGee: Wife would make great food critic

The Lady of the House needs to get a job as a food critic. This dawned on me on our recent vacation to the Texas Gulf Coast. We had been driving all day and were driving through the central Texas night when a sign lit up the darkness: “BEST BAR-B-Q AHEAD.” The Lady of the House and I looked at each other and said, “Let’s eat barbecue tonight.” We settled into our motel and moseyed on over to the big restaurant that promised so many barbecued delights I didn’t know what to think. “Mmm, I love these homemade mashed taters...

  • Officials warn of fire danger

    Alisa Boswell

  • In search of ponies: Pets natural de-stressors

    Sharna Johnson

“My dog saves me a fortune in therapy bills,” a man told me last week. He went on to explain his pup Genesis has heard enough of his problems to more than earn his keep in the year or more since they adopted him. And I have to say it’s got to be working, because Genesis’ dad has to be one of the happiest and most consistently pleasant people I’ve ever met, so good job little dude! My Gilligan serves a similar role. Every evening without fail when he comes in, I hear him teari...
