Social media chatter about real estate features comments from people who are frustrated by the cost of buying a house, renting or amazed by how much both costs have gone up over the past few years. Bob Schneider is the dean of the college of business at Eastern New Mexico University. He spoke of a few factors that partially explain the high cost of housing....

Las Vegas Sun, Syndicated content|Updated Apr 5, 2022

Just weeks after two right-wing extremists verbally assaulted and appeared to threaten violence against Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and his wife at a restaurant in Las Vegas, a left-wing radical unleashed a vile tirade against Republican gubernatorial candidate Joe Lombardo during a public appearance late last month. In both cases the tactics were similar — the public figure is asked to come in close to the assailant under the pretext of taking a selfie and then, once within easy reach of the assailant — and potentially vul...

  • Thousands of cannabis convictions set to vanish

Las Vegas Optic, Syndicated content|Updated Apr 4, 2022

As New Mexicans 21 or older step into retail shops to legally purchase cannabis for recreational use, tens of thousands of people in the state still have cannabis-related convictions on their records. That’s set to change, though. In April of 2021, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham enacted new laws that legalized the use and possession of cannabis and called for the automatic expungement of previous cannabis-related criminal records. The new law requires that many charges and convictions related to cannabis — like charges ste...

  • Opinion: Texas marijuana laws are failure

    Kent McManigal, Local columnist|Updated Apr 4, 2022

An excellent measure of whether a “law” is good or bad is to see if it prohibits something that isn’t prohibited elsewhere -- especially, right next door. If something is clearly bad enough for there to be unanimous agreement it should be prohibited, I might give the argument in favor of prohibition some thought. Otherwise, the law is trash, unworthy of a moment’s consideration or my support. By this measure, Texas’ marijuana laws fail. Hard. The Eastern New Mexico News report...

The park is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and includes one of the most rugged stretches of the Canadian River in northeastern New Mexico. It’s within the Kiowa National Grasslands, whe...
