    Volunteers are needed to participate in a long-term Cancer Prevention Study 3 through the American Cancer Society. The study enrollment initially will be conducted from 5:30-9:30 p.m. May 2, during the first night of the Clovis/ Curry County Relay for Life at Ned Houk Park in Clovis. The Cancer Prevention Study 3 at the local Relay for Life will be the only one offered in New Mexico this year, according to Dorothy Nelson, community relationship manager for the Clovis office of the American Cancer Society.     Cannon Air Force Base has adjusted the hours of its airfield operations to further accommodate Air Force Special Operation Command’s mission requirements. Hours of operation for Cannon’s airfield are currently from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., so local residents may notice aircraft noise during later hours. Airfield operations vary throughout the year due to mission requirements, which are impacted greatly by many factors.     CNJ staff photo: Liliana Castillo Bowman lost his bid for Curry County Sheriff in 2006. Former Curry County Undersheriff Doug Bowman has been hired as Texico’s police chief. Bowman was selected Tuesday night and will take the department’s reins Monday, according to City Personnel Director Doug Scioli. Scioli said there were seven applicants for the position, and “(The decision) was very difficult.     Clovis Municipal Schools hired Grady schools Superintendent Joel Shirley as deputy superintendent of operations, according to a press release from Clovis schools. The hire will take effect at the end of the school year. Shirley will be in charge of maintenance and operations, building and grounds, personnel and cafeterias, according to Clovis Schools Superintendent Rhonda Seidenwurm. “Everything on the operation side of the house,” she said.
