Staff report Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director Jeff Geiser said Friday associate men’s basketball coach Stott Carter was named interim head coach, filling the vacancy left when Andrew Helton resigned earlier this week. Carter has been with Helton at ENMU for the past five seasons, helping the Greyhounds post a 63-72 record and reach the Lone Star Conference tournament four times. A Clovis child was taken to a Lubbock hospital Friday afternoon after being struck by a car turning a corner at 21st and Norris streets, Police Chief Steve Sanders said. Sanders said the child, not identified, was being pushed in a stroller when the accident occurred. The child was taken to the hospital to be evaluated and treated for undisclosed injuries, Sanders said. Sanders said police would release more specific details today....

Staff report If the Eastern New Mexico University baseball team is going to reach the four-team Lone Star Conference tournament, the Greyhounds will need a strong finishing kick. Suffice it to say, they got off to a big-time start on Friday night at Greyhound Field. ENMU gave up three runs to Cameron in the top of the first, then quickly took control behind a 27-hit attack in blasting the Aggies 21-3. Staff report It’s been a couple of weeks since junior Matt Lanier has been on the mound for Clovis High’s baseball team. Lanier, who has been limited to DH duty lately because of a rib injury, worked the seventh inning of Friday’s District 4-5A opener against Carlsbad at Bell Park.
