Melanie Hemphill was honored at Tuesday’s Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education meeting as the district’s volunteer of the year. Highland Elementary Principal Brenda Benfield said Hemphill comes to the school several times a week to help kindergarten students with their reading and provide teachers any assistance they need. “If we need her, she will come at a moment’s notice,” Benfield said. “She doesn’t just work with our kindergartners, she helps anybody anyway she can.” Hemphill said it’s easy to give back when yo...
