ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis High's Burgin Foster wasn't quite as spectacular as he would've hoped, but he still got the job done on Friday. The junior captured his second consecutive state title in Class 6A pole vault at the University of New Mexico's track facility, going an even 14 feet to beat out runner-up Caleb Bulten of Sandia (13-6). Foster has broken his own school record several times this season, including in last weekend's District 2-6A meet in Albuquerque with a vault o...
ALBUQUERQUE — Portales High's seniors came up big on Friday, especially late, helping the Rams advance to a second straight Class 4A state baseball championship game with a 4-3 comeback win over St. Michael's at the University of New Mexico's baseball facility. The second-seeded Rams (23-7) overcame a 3-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Alex Galvan tied the score with a two-run single before senior Joe Ortega singled home eighth-grader Baylor D...
ALBUQUERQUE — The Texico High Wolverines almost made it look too easy. If you think that's something, they're only graduating one player from this year's Class 3A state baseball championship team. Texico completed its rampage against 3A competition on Friday, crushing Capitan 20-3 in the finals at Isotopes Park for its second consecutive title. With all but one player on the roster slated to come back, you can probably pencil in the Wolverines as the favorite for next year. Te...
