  • Maybe Jeff Bezos could turn spaceport around

State columnist Jeff Bezos is too close. He owns a ranch between Guadalupe Peak and Van Horn, Texas. That’s scary. He’s scary. Jeff Bezos is crazy smart. You seldom hear in advance about the stuff he does. He just does it. Past tense. He buys everything in his path for reasons only he can understand. One morning he left his house in Seattle to buy a copy of the Seattle Times and came home instead with the Washington Post. Not the paper. The whole company. It’s not good he is hanging around this close to New Mexico. I can e...

  • Scripture shouldn't be used as a weapon

    Alisa Boswell

Managing Editor It never fails — a political, racial or religious topic pops up in media venues and without fail every time, you will see people grabbing their pitch forks and tar and feathers to lash out. Why? Is it fear over something they don’t understand? Is it indignation over someone's opinion disagreeing with their own? I don’t know. What I do know is there are few things in this world that cause me to feel as weary as listening to angry, hateful rantings over personal belief systems. I do not say this to take sides...

  • Happy with what we made of time in Clovis

Local columnist For my last weekend in Clovis, my friends and I met up at Kelley’s Bar. When we walked in, a four man cover band was performing on stage, playing classic Eagles hits and country songs. Their harmonies were tight, their musicianship good. A waitress came by and took our drink order. I hardly imbibe anymore, but tonight was going to be one of those nights, I told myself. We started with beer, but switched to Long Island Ice Tea. My memory gets a little hazy after that, but I felt good. Just enough for a buzz, b...
