  • Two COVID-19 victims reported in Parmer County

    New Mexico on Monday reported no deaths related to COVID-19 for the first time since April 15. But also Monday, the number of local deaths related to the virus doubled as two Parmer County residents were listed among Texas’ victims. Prior to Monday, the region’s only reported deaths associated with COVID-19 were in Tucumcari and Portales. The Parmer County deaths brought the local number of victims to four.   • Severe t-storm possible tonight

    A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. today for Curry and Roosevelt counties. Chances of rain are about 60 percent, but the National Weather Service also warns, “Main threats are large hail and strong wind gusts.” Sustained winds are expected to be out of the east at 15 to 25 mph.     PORTALES - The 1600 Cherry Street building that has housed Eastern New Mexico University presidents since 1973 will continue in that regard for the foreseeable future.     PORTALES — Lindy’s Sports has named Eastern New Mexico University sophomore Mazin Richards a second-team preseason all-American, according to a school release. Richards, a 6-2, 230-pound defensive end, was one of just four Lone Star Conference players placed on either of the two all-American teams. He was the LSC’s only representative at his position.     GRIER — The man who died on June 2 in a truck-pickup collision on U.S. 60/84 near Grier has been identified as James C. Rogers, 59, of Clovis. A news release from Curry County Sheriff Wesley Waller said Rogers had been positively identified through the Office of the Medical Investigator.
