Jerry Ivan Allison loved making music in Clovis. “We just had an unbelievable time,” he said in a 2015 interview with Clovis News Journal reporter Brittney Cannon. “We met a lot of nice people in Clovis. As usual, eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle got wet just in time for the Curry County Fair to end and the Roosevelt County Fair to get started. Jayme Kushman, 37, and Jaime Sena, 29, both of Texico face 23 charges of child abuse after authorities discovered children in their care in abusive conditions. Sgt. New Mexicans will receive about $38.8 million in student loan forgiveness, according to an Aug. 16 announcement by state Attorney General Hector Balderas, following a decision by the U.S. Department of Education to discharge all federal student loans that borrowers received to attend ITT Technical Institute. Nationwide 208,000 borrowers will receive about $3.9 billion in full loan discharges if they attended ITT from Jan. 1, 2005, until its closure in Sept. 2016. FORT SUMNER — The De Baca County Fair Junior Livestock Sale set a new record for the third straight year Aug. 13, as a combination of renewed interest and new donors proved to be the catalysts. For the first time in history, the sale breached six figures at $119,305, smashing the former record of $81,074 set in 2021. A Tuesday morning power outage affected over 1,800 Xcel Energy customers according to Xcel spokesman Wes Reeves. Reeves said the affected customers were people whose electricity fed from Xcel’s West Clovis Substation. A man charged with killing a Clovis teenager on Aug. 14 was arrested early Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C., officials said. CLOVIS -- The blessed rain came down on Saturday and most of eastern New Mexico rejoiced. But it “pretty much shut things down” on Saturday night, dropping attendance for the Curry County Fair by about 8,000 from a year ago.
