PORTALES — A Portales man was hospitalized after being shot Thursday morning. Lucas Short, 37, of Portales was shot in the chest about 1 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Dollar General, according to Portales Police Officer Charlie Smart. While Short was in critical condition as of 8 a.m. Thursday, Smart said he is expected to live. The suspected shooter was reported to be inside a “smaller, red SUV” with three occupants, Smart said.
