PORTALES — The Portales Police Department may soon have a new home, depending on a decision at tonight’s Portales City Council Meeting. If a resolution to purchase the former Roosevelt County Magistrate Court building on U.S. 70 is approved, the property will become the new PPD headquarters, according to City Manager Sammy Standefer. PORTALES — A Portales man on Monday was found guilty of rape and faces up to 53 years in prison. Jurors found Roy Brown, 29, guilty of two counts of criminal sexual penetration resulting in great bodily harm, plus aggravated battery and other charges. PORTALES — Roosevelt County commissioners this morning are expected to consider the addition of a security officer for the Roosevelt County Courthouse. The security issue stems from a letter from 9th Judicial District Court Chief Judge Drew Tatum stating that bailiffs would no longer be responsible for security in the courtroom.
