The Portales City Council on Tuesday voted to approve its 2023 infrastructure capital improvement plan with a change to the order of priorities. Fire chief Timothy Cathey told the council the department’s newest ambulance is seven years old and there is an issue with its turbo chargers. A motorcyclist apparently fleeing a Clovis Police officer sustained severe head injuries in a wreck and was transported to a Lubbock hospital early Saturday morning. For two decades, William "Larry" Erwin organized the annual Soap Box Derby in Clovis, in which kids coast home-built racers down a hill in hopes of winning a trip to Akron, Ohio, for a shot at a national championship.
