PORTALES - If the Eastern New Mexico University softball team is going to make the 10-team Lone Star Conference tournament, the Greyhounds will have to get hot in a hurry. ENMU dropped a pair of LSC twin bills over the weekend to start a 10-game homestand, including 7-3 and 4-2 decisions to Cameron on Sunday at Greyhound Softball Field. The Aggies (21-17, 9-11 LSC) pounded out 22 hits in the two games, including 16 in the opener, but they did most of their damage with six...

Both teams were getting a little short on pitching at that point, but the Wolverines managed to play Raton to a 9-9 standoff over the final two frames. Coming off doubleheaders the previous night, both teams' pitching depth was severely tested. In the end, Rains and CHS senior right-hander Jasiahs Jimenez were...
CLOVIS — Bobby Valderas says he just likes coaching youth basketball. Valderas, currently the eighth-grade boys coach at Gattis Middle School, formed a traveling youth squad several years ago called the Clovis Kings. This year, the team is expanding its reach to play in tournaments in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska. Valderas said the Kings, whose players range in age from 14-18, trained in 2019 and would have tried to play in tournaments the next year except for the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, he said they were a...

The league begins a two-week postseason tournament on Monday at Roy Walker Recreation Center. That will be followed by a season-ending banquet. Strong pitching from Arkansas-Fort Smith in the final two games cooled off the Greyhounds, who were trying for their third consecutive LSC series win. After taking the first two matchups in the four-game set, giving them eight wins over a 10-game stretch, the Hounds nearly got shut out in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, then fell apart late in a 13-4...

That stretch ended on Sunday, when the Hounds (9-19, 2-10) split a pair against Texas A&M International at Greyhound Softball Field. They...
