FARWELL — Through Financial Peace University, the average family eliminates $5,300 in debt while saving $2,700, according to its founder, Dave Ramsey.
“Financial Peace University is a series of 13 biblically based, life-changing personal finance lessons,” Ramsey said. “The course shows people how to apply proven, common-sense principles in their ‘real world’ that allow them to walk in financial peace.”
Ramsey’s Financial Peace University will be coming to First Baptist Church of Farwell, first for an orientation session at 5 p.m. (CDT) Sunday, said the Rev. Randy Mullin, pastor of First Baptist of Farwell.
“This orientation is just a come-get-acquainted session,” he said. “The full 13-week course will begin at 4 p.m. (CST) on Nov. 2. The cost per family is $90 and includes all the materials, workbooks and tapes.”
Ramsey is the author of the book, “Financial Peace.” He is also the host of “The Dave Ramsey Show,” a talk-radio show dedicated to answering callers’ financial questions.
By age 26, Ramsey said he had accumulated more than $4 million in real estate. He then lost his entire portfolio and virtually everything he owned. Since then, he said he has rebuilt his financial life, “based on Scripture.”
“Personal finance has more to do with behavior than with financial knowledge,” he said. “Financial Peace University provides both the knowledge and environment to permanently change personal financial behavior in a way that brings long-term prosperity and financial security.”
According to Ramsey’s office, a Financial Peace University course “hasn’t been offered in this area,” Mullin said.
“So this will be a groundbreaking event,” he said. “We’re really looking forward to his coming here. Everything he does is biblically based. He presents solid principles of common-sense money management, and he teaches others the lessons he learned the hard way.”
Child care will be available during the orientation session as well as during the 13-week course, Mullin said.
