Contributions to the Salvation Army’s Empty Stocking Fund, which is used to provide Christmas gifts to needy families, fell far short of the organization’s goal, according to results released Friday.
According to Capt. Hector Diaz, the Salvation Army raised only $4,781.23 for the fund, a bit more than half of the organization’s $9,000 goal.
Despite the financial shortfall, Diaz said that by Christmas, the fund had received a significant number of non-cash donations such as toys.
