Alleged shooter jailed

Clovis police have arrested a man suspected in the Wednesday shooting death of Lavon Harris, but Police Chief Bill Carey said officers still don’t know much more than they knew Wednesday.

“We’re glad the case has drawn to a close and we’ll start the prosecution now,” Carey said. “We have no further information on motives.”

According to a press release issued by Sgt. Roger Grah of the detective division, Adam Crespin, 18, of Clovis, was taken into custody about 10:30 a.m. Thursday on the 1300 block of Hickory.

The arrest went without incident, Grah wrote. Grah could not be reached Thursday afternoon for further comment.

Crespin was taken to the Curry County Adult Detention Center where he will be held pending arraignment on a felony arrest warrant for open murder. Jail officials said he is being held without bond and no arraignment date has yet been set.

Lavon Harris, 20, was identified by police as a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, but residents of the Clovis Apartments where he was shot said he’d moved to Clovis a few months ago. No family members of either the victim or defendant could be located.

The police incident report said Harris was shot in the lower abdomen by a shotgun blast about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday in the stairway of Building 10 of the Clovis Apartments at 1000 N. Martin Luther King Blvd.
