Police Blotter 3/28

About 1:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to the apartment office at 1000 N. MLK regarding a woman who had been attacked several days earlier. The woman told police she had left her car and begun to walk to her apartment when she noticed three males following her.

She tried to run up the stairs but they caught her at her apartment door and tried to take her purse before they were run off by another male who appeared on the scene.

Police stopped a 1991 Buick Century about 7 p.m. Monday for driving without headlights. The driver was determined to be a 15-year-old girl with no driver’s license. While looking in the car, officers saw a marijuana cigarette in plain view.

Police cited her for no headlights, no license, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and released her to her father’s custody.

While personnel were working to clean up blood and secure the scene of a homicide about 11 p.m. Monday at the corner of Ninth and Oak streets, a blue Ford F-150 pickup traveling south on Oak approached the crime scene tape, nearly hitting a firefighter holding down the tape and nearly hitting a police officer at the scene. The police officer banged on the vehicle as it passed, after which time the driver stopped.

The female driver admitted consuming several drinks three hours previously, then failed field sobriety tests and refused a blood test. After learning that she had three prior DWI convictions and the new charge would be a felony, officers obtained a search warrant ordering her to submit to a blood test.

About 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a home on the 1200 block of Jones Street where a resident said his carport had been shot by multiple bullets.

Offices evaluated the damage and estimated it would cost $160 to do the repair work.

Police responded about 5 p.m. Tuesday to a grocery store where an employee said she was working in an aisle stocking boxes when a woman attacked her. Several fellow employees confirmed the report.

Officers were unable to locate the woman, believed to be 18 years old, who had initiated the attack.

Staff at a gas station called police about 9 p.m. Tuesday to report receiving three counterfeit $1 bills that had the same serial number. Police later found the man at his home who had paid for alcohol at the store but determined he was intoxicated. Upon questioning, he first denied and then admitted that he had paid cash for the alcohol and said he didn’t remember where he had received the $1 bills.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, staff at a grocery store called to report a violent shoplifter in custody who was attempting to get away from store personnel. Upon arrival, police found the store manager trying to hold an 18-year-old woman down on the floor. The woman surrendered after police arrived and store staff accused her of trying to steal a bottle of alcohol.

Police also found marijuana on the woman and charged her with minor in possession of alcohol and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana in addition to the shoplifting charges.

About 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report that a car was being fired upon at the corner of Seventh and Hull streets. Officers found four suspects accused of shooting at the car; three of them ran but the fourth did not attempt to flee. Police detailed the fourth man, determined he was carrying a marijuana pipe, and cited him for possession of drug paraphernalia.

About 10 p.m. Wednesday, a drive-in restaurant manager called police to report receiving a counterfeit $10 bill. The restaurant said they had received a number of counterfeit bills and now has a special pen to test bills upon receipt.
