Mrs. Barbara E. Thomas, 85, of Clovis, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis.

She was born on Dec. 8, 1918, near Farmersville, Texas, to Walter Roy and Dora Lawrence Johnson.

She graduated from Farmersville High School in 1936. She married Dumas T. Thomas on Dec. 22, 1939. She was a longtime resident of Merit, Texas, and had been a resident of Clovis since 1979. She moved to Clovis to be near her daughter. She was a member of Merit Baptist Church. Family members said she loved her family and enjoyed cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Wade, John and W.D. “Dub” Johnson; and three sisters, Mary Kimzey, Ora Mae Wright and Marticia Walters.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Mitchell (and husband, Gary) of Clovis; a granddaughter, Mara Andrews (James) of Clovis; two great-grandchildren; Thomas and Aubrey Andrews; a sister, Maurice Lovelace of Wilson, Okla.; a brother, Raymond Johnson of Garland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary Mitchell will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Merit Cemetery in Merit.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wayland Baptist University in Clovis, First Baptist Church of Clovis or Merit Baptist Church.
