Delta Kappa Gamma Zeta

The Delta Kappa Gamma Zeta chapter met Monday at Clovis-Carver Library for the last meeting of the year.

Diana Valdez, state president from Corrales, gave a presentation on the purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma, the recent state convention and her plans for the coming year. She was assisted by Jeannette Vigil, state first vice president.

Ellen Gant, teacher of Consumer Education and Family Life at Clovis High School, presented the program on Career Training of the Bakery students. Aspects of the program connected with journalism, marketing and other career studies were explained and a video prepared by the students was shown.

Karen Allen installed officers for 2004-2006: Cheryl Hinrichs; first vice president, Patsy Camp; second vice president, Jody Boyd; corresponding secretary, Roberta Johnson; recording secretary, Kristan Stata; treasurer, Anna Marie Kolek, parliamentarian, Vivian Coates; historian and scrapbook chairman, Susan Johnson.

The group adjourned to meet with the Portales chapter to make plans for the state convention to be held in Portales next April.

Plains Regional Medical Center Auxiliary

Fourteen members of the Plains Regional Medical Center Auxiliary attended the District III meeting of hospital auxiliaries and volunteers Saturday in Portales. Those attending included President Bess Kline, Emily Pearson, Celina Snider, Viva Laney, Wuanita Jones, Joan Edwards, Dorothy Bean, Robbie Williams, Vivian Lake, Mary Kay Nabholz, Barbara Hughes, Marion Pasternaki, Paula Johnston and Faye Smith.

Portales Mayor Orlando Ortega welcomed those attending and Roosevelt General Hospital Administer James D’Agostino brought greetings and words of appreciation. Sid Phillips of Portales, District 3 chairman, introduced guests: Carol Searcy of Las Vegas, N.M., state president; Rebecca Diaz of Albuquerque, president-elect; Paula Johnston of Clovis, treasurer; and Luella Kramer, Taos, immediate past-president.

Gary Partin discussed benefits of home care. Long-term care services may be performed in the client’s home, in the community, nursing facility or in a combination of these settings. Shirley Seaton of Portales explained benefits of physical therapy, particularly in the area of geriatric treatment.

Nicole Frank, Tae Kwan Do instructor, demonstrated self defense with students, Elaine Smith and Virginia Schmuck, members of the Portales auxiliary.

To conclude the day’s activities the group Ogalala entertained the auxilians and their guests with a variety of songs and skits. The group is composed of Chris Harrell and Britt and Lynette Shumate.
