U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici has asked the federal government to pay $368,000 to the City of Clovis for 911 dispatching, now that Cannon Air Force Base has discontinued its own independent dispatch services.
According to Domenici’s office, Cannon ended its own service in 2002, forcing Clovis to provide the same services.
“Cannon and the City of Clovis have a close working relationship, and this EMS equipment is sorely needed for the city to properly serve the base,” Domenici said. “I’ve requested funds to allow the city to purchase new equipment to ensure both the citizens of Clovis and the Cannon community receive top-notch EMS service.”
Domenici said his request is only the first step in the congressional appropriation process. Competition will be stiff for funds and there is no guarantee that money requested will be granted.

A former morning show co-host and bookkeeper at KTQM/KWKA Radio faces criminal and civil charges accusing her of embezzling more than $37,000 from the radio stations, according to a press release issued by radio station managers.
Court records show that Rachael Searcy, 30, was charged on April 6 with two counts of forgery, one count of embezzlement between $250 and $2,500, and one count of embezzlement greater between $2,500 and $20,000. A new set of charges filed Wednesday include 33 counts of forgery, 31 counts of embezzlement greater than $250, two counts of embezzlement greater than $2,500, and 33 counts of tampering with evidence.
The radio station also filed a civil case on Monday accusing her of misappropriating funds, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and conversion.
According to Curry County Adult Detention Center officials, Searcy was released on a $15,000 cash or surety bond. She did not return a call placed to her home for comment on Saturday.
A copy of the arrest warrant provided by radio station managers indicates she was arrested after station managers accused her of writing 33 fraudulent checks worth between $400 and $2,900 between May 2, 2003 and Feb. 19, 2004. Searcy is no longer employed by the radio station, according to the press release.
