Women from N.M. to attend convention

Women throughout New Mexico will be coming to Clovis Tuesday through Friday for the state women’s convention of the Church of God in Christ, hosted by Bishop W.C. Green.

The convention will open at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a musical including choirs and soloists from around the area with Bishop Green speaking.

Mother Lula Kitchen, state supervisor of women for the COGIC, has chosen “Holy Women United in Ministry” as the conference theme. The conference will have both daily and nightly services. The day services begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and evening services are at 7 p.m. Morning speakers include Charlotte Jefferson of Clovis and Vanessa Walker and Yvette Bell of Albuquerque; evening speakers are Bell, Diane Nance of Clovis, and Helen Harris of Alamogordo. Evangelist Patricia Lewis of Memphis, Tenn., will be the conference’s special speaker. A Friday luncheon honoring Kitchen will be held at Sundance Steakhouse.

Except for the Friday lunch, events are held at the First Church of God in Christ, located at 3400 Vinton St. For further information, contact the church at 763-3770.

Chapel sponsoring women’s conference

Patterson Chapel of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church is sponsoring its 2004 Women’s Conference from May 24 to 28 with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Special guests are Minister Mary Washington of the Clovis C.M.E. church, Evangelist Angie Green of First Church of God in Christ in Clovis, the Rev. Clarice Christian, pastor of Immanuel Christian Center in San Diego, Calif., the Rev. Josielyn Thompson, pastor of Amos Metropolitan C.M.E. church in Phoenix, Ariz., and the Rev. Gloria Virk-Coburn, pastor of Word of Faith C.M.E. church in Barstow, Calif.

The church is located at 3221 Jefferson St. in Clovis.

Center bringing eangelist to town

Potter’s House Christian Center is bringing international evangelist Wayman Mitchell from Prescott, Ariz., to Clovis for a miracle healing crusade on May 31 and June 1, to be held at the Lyceum Theater on 411 N. Main St. with services nightly at 7:30 p.m. According to Potter’s House promotional material, Mitchell’s 30-year ministry has included healing of shoulder injuries, breast cancer operation pain, deafness, and a knee tumor.

Teachers hosting Hymn festival

The Clovis Music Teachers’ Association and St. James Episcopal Church are sponsoring a hymn festival for area piano students on Sunday at Moore Hall of the church, located at 1117 N. Main St.

The purposes of the festival is to promote the study of church music, according to event organizers. Pianists representing area churches will play hymns, hymn arrangements and service music. Students will perform in three programs at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. Sponsoring teachers are Doris Tankersley, Ferrell Roberts and Natalie Northcutt.
