George R. “Judge” Herrington, 79, of Texico, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1925, in Ponca City, Okla., to Warren and Ella Wittmer Herrington.

He married Jere Alison Tharp on Oct. 9, 1981, in Clovis. He was a graduate of Ponca City High School. He served during the Korean and Vietnam War as an Air Force Major flying B-29s and B-17s. He retired in 1968 at Cannon Air Force Base. He received his masters degree in education from Eastern New Mexico University. He taught elementary classes at Ranchvale and Texico and served as principal at Texico Public Schools retiring in 1987. He was elected Texico Municipal Judge and served for eight years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Warren Herrington; and a sister, Penny Zarina.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharli Fredericksen of Mesa, Ariz., Debbie Lambert (and husband, Monty) of Wellman, Texas, and Cheri Thompson of Woodland Park, Colo.; a son, Jeff Tharp (Mati) of Clovis; a brother, Zack Herrington of Houston; a sister, Elnore Frankel of San Diego; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.
