S&S Supermarket in Hilltop Plaza has been sold, but the new owner — Clovis resident Kyle Brewer — said he plans no major changes.
The business will change hands Wednesday, Brewer said.
He said he plans a grand opening in about a month or two, but will concentrate on making a smooth transition into the new ownership.
“There are no major plans to change anything. The people that work there will stay,” he said.
Long-time owner and manager Glen Spell said the grocery store has been at its site since 1959. It started as a Piggly Wiggly, then Spell and his partner Carroll Hatter bought it in 1962, he said.
Spell said he and Hatter had been thinking about “semi-retirement” for a while, but when Brewer and his parents, Don and Sherri Brewer, offered to buy the store, they decided to sell it and retire.
Brewer, 34, said he has worked in the signals departments of Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Kansas City Southern railroads since 1992, but has been looking for a small, local business to settle down with.
“One of the main things is that S&S is a hometown business and home operated and we wanted to keep that way,” he said.
Spell said he plans to relax for a while after he hands S&S off to Brewer.
“I may travel a little, fool around, do ‘honey do’s,’” he said.
