Clovis sweeps Lubbock Christian

Clovis swept Lubbock Christian Saturday in West Texas Baseball Leaguedoubleheader.

Clovis routed Lubbock Christian in the first game 24-2 (four innings), with Matt Ulibarri leading the team with a 3-5 outing at the plate and a solo homer.

David Root earned the win, allowing three hits and one earned run. He struck out three and walked three.

Clovis batters John Props Jared Montoya and Jordan Moore had three hits each, and Luke Gray hit a three-run homer. Clovis had 13 hits in the contest.

Clovis defeated Lubbock 13-1 in the second game behind the arm of pitcher Jared Montoya, who earned the win in relief after pitching six innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four.

Montoya and Gray had three hits each. Nathan Dodge, Props and Ulibarri had two hits each, including a triple by Ulibarri. Clovis has won its last seven games in the West Texas Baseball League.

Tascoca sweeps Clovis JV

Amarillo Tascosa’s junior varsity squad swept Clovis’ JV 9-2 and 13-9 in a doudleheader in Clovis.

The loss drops Clovis’ record to 1-9.

Clovis’ Eric Smith was 2-3 with a double and triple. Chase Denton started and went six innings in the loss.

Jonathan Sisneros and Cody Thornsbury each went 3-4 in the second game; Jared Kizer, Denton, Smith, Theodor Marez and Jordan Mendoza all had two hits.

Clovis finished with a season-high 19 hits in the loss.

Thornsbury pitched 4 1/3 of relief.
