Raymond “Ray” L. Self, 88, of Clovis, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Laural Plains Healthcare in Clovis.

He was born on April 19, 1916, to Ira L. and Martha Peters Self in Oklaunion, Texas.

He married Nellie B. Billington on March 21, 1954, in Clovis. He retired as an engineer for the Civil Service at Cannon Air Force Base. After retirement he worked as a custodian at Clovis High Plains Hospital and Clovis Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the D.A.V. Family members said he loved leather working, country music, collecting and watching wrestling on TV.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Woodrow Self; a sister, Addie Ruth Shirley; a daughter, Patricia Allred; and a granddaughter, Vonna Allred.

Survivors include five daughters, Carol Smith of Allen, Texas, Robin Williams of Briggs, Texas, Sharon Douglas of Clovis, Peggy Austin of Alamogordo and Mary Nay of Clovis; three sons, Leon O'Brien and Gene Felty, both of Clovis, and Benton Felty of Libby, Mont.; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Self and Arlie Self, both of Monton, Texas; and three sisters, Beatsie Dupler of Maple, Texas, Laura Warton of White Settlement, Texas and Gertrude Stewart of Hemet, Calif.

The Rev. Wayne Salguero will officiate services.

Burial will follow at Texico Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Pete Berry, Jerry and Bryan Austin, Bernard Douglas, Trey Williams, and Dan Smith Jr.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
