Rogers, Douglas

Douglas Malone Rogers, 67, of Roswell, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Portland, Ore.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1936, in Melrose, to Woodrow and Pauline Rogers.

He joined the Navy in 1955 and retired in 1981 as a recruiter and zone supervisor. He moved his family to Roswell in 1979. He went to work for the Postal Service and served as postmaster until 1992.

Family members said he had many hobbies, loved the outdoors and hunting with his sons, brothers, grandchildren and friends. They also said he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandpa, a cherished brother and a loyal friend.

Survivors include his wife Sue; their four children, Douglas (and wife, Robbie) of Roswell, Michael Rogers of Roswell, Kathy Mayfield (Gordon) of Dallas, and Kevin Rogers (Lynne) of Carlsbad; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Pahl (Edward), Chad, Brad and Britney Mayfield, Kandis and Kyle Rogers, Katie and Shantel; a great grandson, Gavin Michael Mayfield; five brothers, Buddy, Jim (Norma), Bob (Mary), Malcolm (D’Ann), Mickey (Karla); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pastor Troy Grant will officiate the services and military honors will be performed by the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard.

The cremation has already taken place.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the Paralyzed American Veterans.

Arrangements are by Omega Funeral and Crematory Service, Portland, Ore.
