The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball squad completed its first season sweep of West Texas A&M on Tuesday night, thumping the Lady Buffs 30-18, 30-27, 30-27 in a Lone Star Conference South Division clash at Greyhound Arena.
The Zias (20-7, 5-3 South), who ended a 23-match losing streak against West Texas with a five-game win earlier this month in Canyon, Texas, moved near clinching a berth in the upcoming LSC tournament. Meantime, WT (17-13, 2-6) was eliminated from the postseason event for the first time since the school joined the conference in 1993 (no LSC tourney was played in 1996).
Senior Anna Bellum had 16 kills and senior Kelley McGinty added 12 kills and a team-high 14 digs for the Zias, who were efficient most of the night and had just 13 attack errors in the match. Sophomore Grace George and junior Lindsay Schiely each contributed four block assists.
No one reached double figures in kills for the Lady Buffs. Megan Spivey, Courney Barnes and Jessica Scherr each had eight kills in the match.
