Mr. Myron O. “Bill” Been, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1917, in St. Louis, to Millie and Clarence R. Been.

He married Helen Neidert on Nov. 9, 1938, in Perryville, Mo. They moved to Clovis in 1942. He was employed at the Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years where he was a brakeman and a conductor. He retired in 1980 and moved to a small farm in Portales where he raised cattle for several years. He was a member of the Christian Church in Clovis and the Central Christian Church in Portales, where he was a deacon. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason in the Las Cruces body and a member of Clovis Masonic Lodge No. 40.

Family members said his hobbies included coin collecting, hunting, fishing and watching horse races.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; a sister; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Myron Kenneth Been (and wife, Joanna) of Seguin, Texas; four daughters, Joann Holder (Bennie) of Clovis, Carrol Jones (Terry) of Hobbs, Sharon LeMier (James J.) of Portales, and Barbara Fisher (Donald) of Evans, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Allen Conner will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Cemetery in Clovis.

Pallbearers are Robert Holder, Terry Jones Jr., Myron LeMier, Joseph LeMier, Steven Hatch and Stephen Tietz will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
