Mid-year exams are right around the corner, specifically, Tuesday through Thursday. Christmas parties for students, staff and faculty will be held on Thursday, which is the last day of school before the holiday break. Classes will resume on Jan. 3.

Elementary progra

The annual elementary candlelight program will be held tonight at 7. The sixth grade will present the play, “How Santa Got His Christmas Tree.” The elementary choir grades K-5 will sing “O, Christmas Tree” and many other traditional Christmas songs. Both teachers and staff will direct the program. The public is invited to attend.

Election

The Elida Municipal School district will be holding an election on Feb. 1st to fill three positions on the board of education. Any person who desires to be a write-in candidate for membership on the School Board is asked to file a declaration of intent with the county clerk of Portales no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 28. The polls for the election will be open between 7a.m. and 7 p.m. on the day of the election.

Guest speaker

A guest speaker from NMSU spoke to high school students about his recent trip to Mongolia and its culture. Mason Davis of Portales said people over there judge their wealth by the number of animals in a herd. He said that Mongolia, with a population of 1.2 million people in an area comparable to the size of Clovis, has only two churches.
