Last week: Clovis swept three games in the Plateau Classic, beating Rio Rancho 53-35 in the championship. Frenship lost to Coronado 61-54 in the championship of the Caprock Tournament.

Last meeting: Clovis 68-46, Dec. 13 at Rock Staubus Gym.

At stake: The Lady Cats’ undefeated season and No. 2 ranking in Class 5A

Frenship scouting report: The Lady Tigers are a big team, with five players over 6 feet tall. Clovis doesn’t have anyone 6-0.

Frenship players to watch: Erica Knight, P, 6-0, Sr.; Simone Jackson, P, 6-0, Jr., Ashleigh Brady, P, 6-0, Sr. Knight and Jackson were called for fouls early in the teams’ matchup earlier this season, which Frenship coach Terry Lowrey said limited their productivity. They scored a combined eight points. Brady led the Tigers with 16 points Dec. 13

Notable: Clovis post Brittany Blackmon scored a career-high 32 points against the Lady Tigers Dec. 13. She bettered that mark by two points four days later against Coronado. Clovis coach Miles Watters said he expects the Tigers to double-team Blackmon. Blackmon had 15 field goals in that game. Frenship as a team made only 13, and committed 22 turnovers with Clovis’ full-court press hounding them.

By the numbers: Clovis just finished a 6-game home stand, which was started against Frenship.

At stake: The Wildcats’ undefeated season and No. 3 ranking in Class 5A

Frenship scouting report: The Tigers are big with 6-8, 6-7 and 6-5 post players. Clovis coach J.D. Isler said much like the Wildcats, the Tigers like to pass the ball down low offensively and play man on defense. The biggest difference is speed. Whereas the Cats like the game up tempo, the Tigers are patient and try to slow things down.

Frenship players to watch: Nick Evans, P, 6-5; Rob Mitchell, P, 6-8; Trey Merchant, G, 5-10; Matt Beyer, G, 6-2; Matt Quinn, G, 6-1.

Notable: The Wildcats could move up in the 5A polls this week as No. 1 Cibola lost...This is the third straight year the two teams have played. Clovis lost at Frenship in 2002 and beat the Tigers in Rock Staubus last year.
